Numan Aykut Şahin - Hasibe
Ceramic Artist Numan Aykut Şahin’s ’’Hasibe’’ Exhibition at Asmalı Mescit Art Gallery
The exhibition, which will open its doors to visitors on May 26, will continue until June 15. It is inspired by his grandmother Hasibe and the family lands that the artist frequently visited during his childhood.
The artist, who created a narrative based on his roots and his grandmother Hasibe's friends, states that he was greatly influenced during his production process by his childhood memories in the village of Maltepe in the Keşan district of Edirne, the characters he observed, the different body forms, and the variety of motifs.
Based on these indicators, Şahin created his avant-garde peasant "Fat Lady" sculptures, incorporating images he encountered in the geographically, geologically, and biologically diverse Maltepe village, which was also a playground for him during his childhood, such as swamps, mud, centipedes, and frogs. The artist, who has received training in fashion and worked in styling, also uses his experiences in this field to dress his sculptures, ensuring a wide variety of motifs in his narrative with an extensive range of mosaics.
